- active verbs
- The subject of an active sentence performs the action of the verb: "I throw the ball." The subject of a passive sentence is still the main character of the sentence, but something else performs the action: "The ball is thrown by me."[...]
- direct quotation
- A legitimate way of using someone else's exact words in your paper, so long as you put quotation marks around those exact words, and identify the source. (See paraphrase.)...[...]
- paraphrase
- Using another author's ideas, but different words, is paraphrasing. If you paraphrase someone else's ideas, in academic writing you must still give credit to the original author, because you are using someone else's ideas.(Whenever you are in doubt, cite your...[...]
- plagiarism (and academic integrity)
- Plagiarism is an academic or professional misrepresentation, in which a writer takes credit for someone else's ideas. Avoid plagiarism by submitting your own original workgiving proper credit to other people whose words and/or ideas appear in your workrecognizing that direct quotation...[...]
