Netstore USA

Netstore USA (opengroup.com)

Buy my book, Technology in American Drama, 1920-1950… Priced at just $197.70! Outside of the US, that’s $216.60, or about a dollar a page! Order now!

Sheesh! At that price, with the royalties I’ve earned so far, I could buy THREE WHOLE COPIES! Oh, wait, they already charged me for the advance copies I purchased, I guess I could buy just two more copies.

Thanks for the so-disturbing-you-just-have-to-laugh link, Rosemary. (It’s much cheaper at Amazon, but if you ask your local university library to buy a copy, they’ll be able to get it for less, and more people will get to read it.)

  1. I ordered a discontinued perfume from them that I was so excited to have found. They sent me an email the following day stating that the item was not in stock, and that in a month they would either send me the perfume or refund my money. It’s been four months – no perfume! No refund!!! These scammers need to be closed down!

  2. NetStore and WorldRetailStore are both part of Open Media Pty, Open Group, Open Communications, Open House, etc.. I also never received my books, but fortunately, I realized early on that it was a scam, and called the credit card company. Most others have been less fortunate and have had money charged to their credit cards, but never receive the books. They have been investigated by Better Business Bureau, but had very little success in having any response from the “store”.
For more info, go to Resellerratings and see what some have said. You can also file a complaint and there is a forum. Also look at the Arizona BBB report. Also, search World Retail Store and see what McAfee Site Advisor for shopping experience had to say—there are additional links to upset customers.
If you notice at the NetStore and WorldRetailStore sites, there is no customer service and no phone numbers. If you contact them by e-mail, chances are you will not receive reply (that is what most people are saying and that was my own experience). They are taking people’s credit card info, getting their money, and keeping silent when contacted, even by the BBB.
To prevent others from this experience, I urge anyone with problems with them to file complaints to appropriate authorities and shopping websites that report scams. Go to Resellerratings as a start.

  3. Would NEVER EVER use Netstore again – totally ripped us off and never delivered the book but happily deducted the money from our visa. Apparently they “do not charge your credit card until we ship your order”. This is bullshit as a day later they send a note saying they haven’t actually located the book at all. Would never advise using them.

  4. 1920-1950? You wrote this? You’re how old? It’s impressive to have a book for that price and still be alive. ;) All kidding aside, I find the information on this site to be informative, entertaining, and amusing. Also, thank you for helping Heather with her project.

  5. Yes, it is disturbing. Netstore is making an obscene profit. They have 8 copies of Robert’s books with prices ranging from $29 to $36.10! Unfortunately his books are out of print but Amazon is selling used copies of these same books for between $4 and $16.50 and they also pop up on ebay from time to time for even less than that. Authors do not get royalties on used books but at least more people get a chance to read their works. I hope readers shop around before buying new or used books to avoid getting gouged.
