The president of Mount St. Mary’s University has reinstated the two faculty members who were fired for disloyalty this week, according to a statement from the institution on Friday afternoon.
But one of those faculty members — Thane M. Naberhaus, a tenured associate professor of philosophy — said he would not accept the college’s offer. “Hell no,” Mr. Naberhaus said in response to an email asking if he would agree to the reinstatement. “Not going back until he’s gone,” he said, referring to the university’s embattled president, Simon P. Newman.
Meanwhile, the Mount St. Mary’s faculty has voted to demand Mr. Newman resign by Monday morning at 9 a.m. Eastern. In an open letter, faculty members said they voted 87 to 3 to demand the president step down.
