Paper 1 Review

We will look back at what we have learned from Paper 1, as we prepare to submit Paper 2.

Assignment:

  • Review MLA Style Instructions
  • Create a “Works Cited” page for your Paper 1 (see the SF Writer section 27b, or the Purdue OWL)
  • Share in your small groups.
  • Gather questions you’d like to ask me about MLA style.

Portfolio 2

We will talk about this in class today. Format is similar to that of Portfolio 1.

This participation portfolio is a single file, uploaded to Moodle. It consists of two parts:

Part 1

A brief paragraph (about 200 words) that reflects on how the contents of this portfolio demonstrates what you have learned since you submitted your first porftolio. Be selective. I am not asking for a stand-alone sentence on each item; instead, I am looking for evidence you can link these small assignments to the course goals. Include brief direct quotations from 2-4 items, in order to support the main point you want to make.

I’m asking you to place your reflection at the beginning of your file, but you should write it last, after you have assembled Part II.

Part II

Review the following assignments, and write a brief statement (a sentence or two is fine) reflecting on how each individual activity demonstrates what you have learned so far. This assignment also asks you to write two new reflections (#3 and #4, below).

(I am not looking for a single “correct” answer; rather, I am looking for evidence that you can engage, individually and specifically, with each item on the list. Be creative, personal, and precise. If you did not complete the item, briefly describe your plan for how you can stay on track in STW.)

  1. Reading 2-1 & 2-2 Moodle Activity (reflect on what you learned)
  2. Reading 2-3 & 2-4 Moodle Activity (reflect on what you learned)
  3. New assignment: Reflection on Office Visit (about 150 words)
    What is the most important thing you learned from our face-to-face visit, and how have you applied it so far? (Be specific rather than vague; a direct quote from your own writing would be very specific, whereas a general reaction or an optimistic promise would be vague)
  4. New assignment: Reflection on Course So Far (about 150 words)
    1. What is going well?
    2. What is not going so well?
    3. What can I do (or what can I cantinue to do) to help your learning?
    4. What can you do (or what can you continue to do) to help your learning?

Due in Moodle, Friday (Oct 7), by 4:30pm.
