Paper 2 Presubmission Report

Note, Nov 6: (An earlier version of the schedule listed a different assignment in this slot -- a paper draft. But I have pushed that assignment back to Nov 18, to make room for this pre-writing assignment.)
Supply the following information.

1) Your thesis statement (including the precise opinion and blueprint -- that is, a short list of your supporting points, in the order in which you plan to discuss them in the full paper). (What's a blueprint?)
2) Several direct quotations from the literary source(s) you plan to study.
2A) Include quotations that support your thesis...
2B) ...as well as quotations that refute your thesis.
3) Direct quotations from outside sources
3A) Include quotations that support your thesis..
3B) ...as well as quotations that refute your thesis.
4) Your preliminary conclusion.
5) An example of the efficient integration of a brief quotation from an outside source, into one of your own sentences that makes the point that you want to make. Use an MLA parenthetical citation to cite your source properly.
6) A full Works Cited page (following MLA style, the same that you learned for your STW research paper)

So, what exactly is due on Wednesday? I'm not sure what you are asking for. We did paper 1. Is paper 2 due next week?

I've pushed back the full draft of the paper until Nov 18.

In this slot, for Nov 11, I'm asking for a presubmission report, which is my name for a pre-writing assignment that contains the parts I've described above (numbers 1-6).

This assignment is designed to make sure that you have all the ingredients of a good paper, before you start cooking it up.

Does that help? Would you like to make an appointment to discuss your ideas?

So, paper 2 will be on something we have read so far? Am I able to link a reading that contrasts a reading we have read this semester? That will be within my thesis statement? I have ideas, but want to get it right.

Yes, you can choose a topic that contrasts two readings, but a thesis statement is a precise opinion -- "A and B can be compared" is not a debatable claim.

This handout might help.
