The Nietzschean diet, which commands its adherents to eat superhuman amounts of whatever they most fear, is developing a strong following in America.
… “One must strive to eat dangerously as one comes into the Will to Power Oneself Thin,” Nietzsche wrote. “What do you fear? By this are you truly Fattened. You must embrace your Fears, as well as your Fat, and learn to Laugh as you consume them, along with Generous Portions of Simple Salad. Remember, as you stare into the lettuce, the lettuce stares also into you.” —New Nietzchean Diet Lets You Eat Whatever You Fear Most (The Onion (Satire))

I use the Google Toolbar to block pop-ups and a nifty little thingy called “No! Flash” (horrible name) that blocks Flash ads. I didn’t see the ad you mentioned.
Somewhat off topic: I clicked on the link for the article and saw the most annoying ad I have seen on a web page to date. There was a red car zooming around on top of the article text leaving tire tracks also on top of the text which made the article impossible to read. I scrolled down the page but the car moved with me so I gave up and left the page. The ad probably ended after a few seconds but I was too annoyed to wait for it to finish.
Yep, I was definitely thinking of you when I blogged that.
BRILLIANT! Loved the graphics, too: one parodying the whole insane Atkins’ craze and another of FEAR candy bar (“Swallow it Laughing!” the tagline says on the mock package). I love this.
