Dear Card Reader

Dear Card Reader (Jerz’s Literacy Weblog)

Dear Card Reader,

Where are you?

I’ve been looking everywhere for you. You pick the most inopportune time to disappear, because I have a 1GB SD card to futz around with for the summer.

You weren’t under the cushion of the comfy chair, though I did find 13 pens, one marker, one pencil, one lollipop, one bottlecap, and a small ear of corn.

(I inherited that chair from a former colleague who was retiring after some 30 years of teaching, so the chair actually accumulated less than one writing implement a year, which is reasonable. I can’t explain the ear of corn.)

But still no card reader.

  1. Holy moly, who finds corn ANYWHERE in their office?? That’s really odd. In fact, it’s worthy of the term “random” (which has become overused recently).

And that is one comfy chair. Even though Dr. A insists that it’s a pickpocket.

  2. “Oh No, not the COMFY CHAIR!!”

This is hilarious. That Stabilo 88 pen is probably mine, so I bet the chair lifted it from me. But the ear of corn?! Who carries such a thing in their pocket? Bizarro.

  3. Have you interrogated the Rainbow Hectors hanging out on the bookcase next to the comfy chair? They look a little guilty to me!

  4. The camera actually belongs to The Setonian (the student paper), so that’s only a short-term solution. It’s a full-size camera, not a little pocket thing, so it’s not exactly convenient.

On the bright side, my laptop at home has an SD slot, so theoretically I should be able to leave my card reader here in the office. What the heck did I do with it?

Maybe my daughter tucked it in a drawer with stuffed animals. I wouldn’t mind so much, except that I can buy about one cable or peripheral a month before my wife starts getting upset with me. (In the past two months, I’ve bought a thumb trackball, a second game pad, and an IEEE Firewire cable. So I’m over my quota.)

  5. ahhhh….the famous Kirkwood chair. Wonder if the ear of corn was to feed the frogs.

Do you have a digital camera that uses SD? If so, just throw the card in the camera. It’ll mount up just like a portable drive.
