I must have missed this video when I was sick earlier this semester… Michael Wesch at Kansas State University:
… the basic idea is to create a 3 minute video highlighting the most
important characteristics of students today – how they learn, what they
need to learn, their goals, hopes, dreams, what their lives will be
like, and what kinds of changes they will experience in their lifetime.
We already know some things from previous research (and if you know of
any interesting statistics, please list them along with the source).
Others we will need to find out by doing a class survey. Please add
whatever you want to know or present.

As is typically the case with the medium, this video does a good job of capturing the attention and making an emotional point, but a survey without analysis is just numbers. It looks like the online community is doing a good job of responding to the professor’s request for input and feedback.
Dennis, I remember seeing and talking about this video in my Introduction to Composition Studies course this term. As instructors, my colleagues and I tried not becoming depressed at its statistics about students, but more importantly Wesch is receiving criticism from some scholars over that video. Despite showing potential Web 2.0 possibilities, Wesch does not consider critical issues related with technology in the classroom such as accessibility related with social class.
