  1. Twilight was nothing. Watch out for stuff like The Unwind series or some of the other very dark dystologies. Some of the YA material can be very dark.

  2. Are the books better than the movies? I know that is usually the case…. but I saw about half of the first movie… and, frankly, found the premise a bit sickening…. Just my opinion. And yes, yes, I understand what you’re all saying above…. and I know that Carolyn is an intelligent girl… and perhaps this IS just a “drop in the bucket,” as Greg said above…. BUT… why FEED these kinds of things to our children? They will find out a ton of “immorality” all on their own… why offer it to them on a silver (albeit literary) platter? Just a thought. :)

    • I haven’t seen the movies, so I can’t comment. We will certainly talk to Carolyn about the moral content of the book, as we do with all the media she consumes (or helps to create).

  3. She’s gonna be okay. She’ll read this, but she’s already read everything else. This is a drop in the bucket for her, as opposed to all those people who read Twilight and nothing else.

  4. There are worse things…. I must confess to liking the series. Sort of captures the angstyness of adolescence along with a sort of Victorian aesthetic about sexuality.
