6. Assignments

The whole course is based on 500 points.

If a particular exercise is worth 40 points, and you get 30 on it, you got 75%, or a B.

• Exercises (300 pts) -- Homework assignments, due about once a month.
• Ex 1: Personal Goals
• Ex 2: Article 1 (800 words; for Summer Setonian)
  
• Ex 3: Article 2 (800 words; for Summer Setonian)
  
• Ex 4: TBA (Advance work for Summer Setonian)
  
• Portfolios (100 pts) -- A lab report (a 400-word news article, written in the third person, following all the principles of good journalism), richly-linked blog entry (collecting your thoughts on the readings and other class activities), and "action item" (an active, concrete contribution to one of the class projects, OR a stand-alone contribution that benefits The Setonian) Due on the Monday after each printed issue of the paper appears. Accordingly, the four portfolio due dates are scheduled for

• Term Project (100 pts) -- Includes an informal oral report (20pts), and a project portfolio (which includes a final evaluative reflection (20pts), a one-page handout (20pts) to be distributed during the final oral presentation session, and my assessment of your contributions to the team project (include drafts, final documents, a log, or anything else that will help me to assess your work (40pts).)
• Final Exam -- An informal oral report and the final term project submissions are due during the final exam time slot.
