A Blunt News Article that you might want to read!

In Chapter 6, Cappon talks about the usage of the words "mishaps," "accident," and "incident." This was really helpful because I have always been a little shaky on the correct usage of "incident." Some have told me it's when something negative happens, not just a regular occurence. This is kind of similar to what Cappon is saying. However, I understand now where "incident" reaches its boundary: something just as " a shootout" is more than an incident.

In Chapter 8, it was interesting to read about the "said-of trap." I haven't really come across that problem in my own writing, at least I haven't noticed it, and I haven't really noticed it in other writing. However, I have not read very much news writing until this course. Anyway, this was interesting and helpful because it gave me a new insight on how to quote, and it allowed me to see why this "said of" doesn't work. It just seems less personable, and from the reading of this chapter, Cappon suggests that quotes are there for the personal touch; for a dialogue between the reader and the story.
