This link will take you to a page about Andrew Plotkin's interactive fiction game "Shade."
Try clicking on "Play Now" in the upper right corner (you may need to click "Show me How" as well) and following the directions.
If that doesn't work, try this online version.

Professor Jerz,
Is this a game we're supposed to play or an article to read? My computer won't open it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
You're working ahead! I've added a clarification.
I am unable to upload this game. What can i do to get it to upload. I tried all the options avaible on the linked web-page.
You might also try this page... it should open in the window of any recent web browser. http://www.eblong.com/zarf/zplet/shade.html
When you clicked the "Show Me How" button and followed all the steps, what happened? It should allow you to download a Z-machine, which is a program that runs the game file, which will be called shade.z5. You'll need to open the Z-machine (probably WinFrotz, but it might be different if you aren't using a Windows computer), and then after you've opened WinFrotz, open the shade.z5 file (which you will need to download and save somewhere.)

Are you on a very slow connection, or did your computer refuse to install the software the site offers? Can you try downloading the recommended files on a Jump drive or in your SHU network space? (I forget whether for students that drive is named I or P.)
