Dear Students,
The last week of classes is always an emotional time for me. I love you all, and miss you already. I hope you are enjoying the snow.
Above is a picture of the stacks of papers I have to mark before I will have your final grades calculated. I received most of these Thursday and Friday morning, and only brought home for the weekend what I could fit in one shoulder bag.
I can understand your enthusiasm for knowing what your grades will be going into the final exam, but no, I don’t have your grades ready yet.

Good luck, Dr. Jerz. It is really funny--just when we are ready to heave a big sigh of relief at the end, you are ready to die from exhaustion.

If you get time with your family, watch the Wizard of Oz. It works for all problems, and kids like the munchkins.
You know what they say... If you don't want so many papers and projects to grade, don't assign so many!
But I'm one of those weird ones who actually enjoys writing papers, so I'm not actually advocating this change.

There's still time, neha! Chance are, of course, that you'll TA at least a handful courses, maybe a lot, in the process of getting your degree... if that's so, you'll get a good taste of what grading is like. (In all honesty, the big thick binders are full of blog entries, most of which I've read before, or are portfolios, full of papers that other professors -- or I myself -- have already graded. But it is an impressive-looking stack, is it not? I also got a huge papercut while carrying the big stack of binders from the classroom to my office [note to self -- next time, have students bring binders to my office].)
