My barely-used, barely-2-year old SCD103 is giving me the black screen in Camera mode but appears operational in Playback mode. I have called Samsung twice and was fed much the same story as I’ve read on this post. Please add us to the lawsuit too! —Another SCD103 victim (Camcorderinfo.com)

My camcorder recently went out while I was recording my daughter’s preschool recital. Actually, it flickered on and off, so I was able to get some sections… I’d really rather it have cut off completely, so I wouldn’t have felt obligated to wrestle with it during the show.

I had a voice recorder and my tiny hand-held digital camera, but neither of those really match the quality of the segments that I got off of the dying camcorder.

Looks like Samsung settled a class action suit related to this problem… one poster on the forum reports Samsung reluctantly agreeing to a free repair.

  • I just learned today that if you mention the class action law suit regarding the CCD (samsungclassaction.com) they will extend your warranty to cover parts and labor at their service center. I have called several times to try to get my camera fixed and they were going to charge me $160. I found this site and all of the sudden, they are willing to cover the bill!

  • Sorry, Carlos, I don't have any more information. I stopped following this problem when my wife OK'd the purchase of a new, different video camera.

  • I have had the same issue for over 2 years and had no idea EVERYONE was having the same problem. Was anything resolved as far as class action goes?
    This is ridiculous!

  • I didn't actually do anything. I bought a camera that uses a hard drive, instead of those expensive little tapes.

  • I own the same samsung SCD 103 camera.I have the black screen problem as you described. I would appreciate how to proceed to solve this problem. Any help?
