“Cool” Rosetta Mission Scientist Matt Taylor Objectifies Women via T-Shirt, Language

How very sad that someone with this level of visibility is making the choices Matt Taylor has been making. A female scientist who chose to appear at a public event dressed like the sexualized women on Taylor’s T-shirt would likely be criticized as unprofessional, so it’s only fair to wonder what Dr. Taylor was thinking when he chose to wear that particular shirt. To that end, Let’s see how he has invoked gender recently…

Watch the video in the Mail’s version of this “British scientist taking Twitter by storm” story, and you can hear Taylor refer to the Rosetta mission as “the sexiest mission there’s ever been. She’s sexy, but I never said she was easy.”

ESA can land their robot on a comet. A comet! It’s amazing. But they still can’t see misogyny under their noses. It’s painfully ridiculous. Pointing this out is not a distraction to the science. It’s part of it. It’s time science finally realised that.
