Clear Water Costly For Small Towns

Minnesota communities outside the Twin Cities area have an immediate need for $6.9 billion worth of wastewater treatment, drinking water and storm sewer facilities, according to a report by West Central Initiative, a regional foundation based in Fergus Falls.

“If, all of a sudden, you can’t flush your toilet, your house isn’t worth anything,” said Nancy Straw, president of West Central Initiative. —Clear Water Costly For Small Towns (WCCO-TV)

Our plumbing problems haven’t been that bad, but Rosemary must have noticed I’ve had sewage on my brain for the last few days. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • After our house flooded in 2000, our sewere line got plugged by sand. I can attest to the fact that a house without working plumbing is not much of a home.

I can also add three rules that every homeowner should know about working with plumbing.
    1. Water runs downhill
    2. 1 inch to the foot. (1 inch of vertical travel per foot of horizontal travel) a drain must have at least this ratio to work properly.
    3. Don't eat with your fingers.

  • I can think of several regular readers who are connected with the U of M, but mostly I blogged it because I liked the "you can't flush your toilet" quote.

  • It's funny - I read this, and I was like "Oh, right, that's right around where I live."

And then I thought - wait, doesn't Dennis live in Pennsylvania?...and before that in Eau Claire, WI? How did an article about the Minnesota Twin Cities area end up on his blog?
