Minnesota communities outside the Twin Cities area have an immediate need for $6.9 billion worth of wastewater treatment, drinking water and storm sewer facilities, according to a report by West Central Initiative, a regional foundation based in Fergus Falls.
“If, all of a sudden, you can’t flush your toilet, your house isn’t worth anything,” said Nancy Straw, president of West Central Initiative. —Clear Water Costly For Small Towns (WCCO-TV)
Our plumbing problems haven’t been that bad, but Rosemary must have noticed I’ve had sewage on my brain for the last few days. Thanks for the suggestion.

After our house flooded in 2000, our sewere line got plugged by sand. I can attest to the fact that a house without working plumbing is not much of a home.
I can also add three rules that every homeowner should know about working with plumbing.
1. Water runs downhill
2. 1 inch to the foot. (1 inch of vertical travel per foot of horizontal travel) a drain must have at least this ratio to work properly.
3. Don’t eat with your fingers.
I can think of several regular readers who are connected with the U of M, but mostly I blogged it because I liked the “you can’t flush your toilet” quote.
It’s funny – I read this, and I was like “Oh, right, that’s right around where I live.”
And then I thought – wait, doesn’t Dennis live in Pennsylvania?…and before that in Eau Claire, WI? How did an article about the Minnesota Twin Cities area end up on his blog?
