The Internet has been providing people who have religious convictions — the vast majority of Americans — with a home long denied them in mainstream media. But there are signs of change in the MSM. —Daithí Ó hAnluainedia —Religion is Big News on the Net (Online Journalism Review)
The other day I spoke briefly with a journalism major who’s picking up a religion minor… I recalled seeing this headline some time ago, and so I’m blogging this for her.

I’ll try not to batter you with a half-baked pun.
I am also interested in cake decoration, but I do not know how lucrative that would be in the journalism profession…
Hey, wait a minute… don’t call your personal attraction to the subject matter and your desire to work with certain professors a “surface reason”! Those are the most important reasons anyone can learn anything at a liberal arts school!
The fact that your minor will help your career should be icing on the cake, not the cake itself!
Okay, I’m being a little melodramatic to make a point…
Thanks for the link.
I initially wanted to pick up the minor for surface reasons: the extensive religious curriculum, the professors at SHU, and also my own interest and faith background; after reading this article and speaking with you, I am happy to find another, perhaps principal purpose of this new course of study: to further my journalism career. It is quite comforting to learn that my minor will come in handy.
