I was horrified to see that, in order to opt out of pre-approved credit mailings, the bottom-feeders known as Equifax, Experian, Innovis, and TransUnion expect us suckers to type our SSN and birthdate into an online form, which we then are expected to print out and mail.
I tried typing “000-00-MYOB” and “000-00-0000” into the SSN form, but my application was rejected. Then I noticed that the form doesn’t actually say “required” next to the SSN or birthday listing. Elsewhere I found some deliberately obscure language that admits the organization doesn’t actually need your DOB or SSN in order to process your application, but the service collects it in order to make the transaction more secure.
Right.
This whole website stinks of lawyerese, obfuscation, and minimal compliance.

Oh boy. Don’t get me started. I tried calling the number on those ridiculous pieces of junk mail to stop them for both myself and Robby. The opt-out call center is completely automated and they ask for your address. Our address very simple, but the computer couldn’t understand it. It would try repeating it to verify but would spit back the most unintelligible string of sounds known to robot kind. I finally had to use the old trick of shouting angry words at it so they would connect me to a real person. Worked like a charm.
But, we still get the pre-approved mail.
