Hi,
I’m a reporter with National Public Radio and I’m doing a story on the plague that’s hit World of Warcraft. I’m really interested in talking to some people who play the game about the plague and what’s been done about it and generally how it feels to have your virtual character done in by a plague.
Are you a player and do you know others who might speak with me? Let me know. You can email me at LSydell@npr.org or call me at 415-503-3164.
Thanks. I look forward to talking with you!

Sounds interesting.
Looks like a software bug infects players who’ve come into contact with a particular bad guy. And the infection spreads.
First noticed on kairosnews, which credits ArsTechnica.

If they want to make it REALLY interesting they can make it so if you die after being infected – you can’t log on with that character for a month.
Or at the very least it knocks your health down to half until you’re cured.
Maybe even make it spread among players who are in groups together.
Then, they can have an end-game raid to release the antibody to the entire realm.
Once its released you’ll find cures for sale at every vendor and all infected NPCs will automatically be cured. Then characters can buy the cure for 1 copper to get fully restored.
Want to make it even MORE interesting? Completing the end game antibody raid only releases the cure to your faction. So if Horde gets it first, they get cured. And Alliance would have to complete the end game instance themselves.
This game has so many possibilities. They just need to release expansion packs more regularly.
Will, that’s a very interesting theory.
Supposedly, the plague kills players – but in WOW, when you die you respawn, so it’s not like your character is really “dead”.
Don’t you wonder if this is a deliberate publicity stunt by blizzard? We sure keep hearing about world of warcraft, don’t we?…
