Just now, a student crept up behind me and slipped a pair of headphones over my head. I don’t know her. She doesn’t introduce herself. Small voices, like backwards chimpmunks, say something inaudible to a hip-hop beat.

Yikes…creepy…this student needs to learn her boundaries. There’s a thin line between slipping on a pair of headphones and either a) a covering of the eyes and whispering “guess who, lover?” and; b) a garrotte wire around the neck.
Well, it wasn’t TOO late when it happened. But yes, my wife would heartily agree that I should leave work earlier.
The common denominator here seems to be your working late. Perhaps you should leave work earlier?
