I think Jason said he recorded almost an hour of the interview with me. While we were setting up he explained that he measures a successful interview in terms of sentences that make it into the final product. Some of what I was saying was just putting into words the background and context that he might need in order to tell the story, in case he can’t get a first-hand source to provide whatever detail he needs. So he did ask me a small number of questions, and I saw him nodding and getting excited over some of the things I said, so I gather he found a few passages that he thought would be interesting. But I’m far more interested in hearing how he puts together the clips from the many other sources.
Do you know how much more of your clip will be part of the finished product?
Yes, it would have been great if I could have assigned this DVD for the Video Game Culture and Theory class, but it’s still a work in progress.
Yes, in many ways that Colossal Cave trip has been the highlight of my academic career. Well, finishing my PhD was probably a bigger professional moment, but I worked hard for that. The cave trip felt like magic, since I found myself in the company of caving experts who did everything they could to make me feel welcome and comfortable.
Why? Why couldn’t this have been around in January when we spent all that time on text adventures?
Semi-related, you have now become a hero of geekdom in the eyes of my ultra-geeky tech friend Steve after I told him the story of your own personal Colossal Cave Adventure.
